Another Great American Beer Festival (GABF) is in the books and with it another awards competition. In all, 322 judges from 18 countries took the measure of 9,497 entries from 2,295 breweries, making it the largest GABF competition in the festival’s 33-year history. This years’ competition saw 401 first-time entrants, 37 first-time winners, with 318 total medals awarded.
Texas breweries once again did very well, taking home 16 medals overall: 8 Gold, 3 Silver, and 5 Bronze.

Real Ale Brewing Co, Blanco. Silver for “Real Heavy” in the Scotch Ale category
Community Beer Co., Dallas. Gold for ‘Texas Lager” in the Session Beer category
Family Business Beer Co., Dripping Springs. Silver for “Golden Age Pilsner” in the German-Style Pilsner category
Saint Arnold Brewing Co, Houston. Bronze for “Pumpkinator” in the Pumpkin/Squash Beer or Pumpkin Spice Beer category
Great Height Brewing Co, Houston. Bronze for “Bourbon Legend” in the Wood- and Barrel-Aged Strong Beer category
Altstadt Brewery, Fredericksburg. Gold for “Altstadt Kölsch” in the German-Style Kölsch category

True Vine Brewing Co., Tyler. Bronze for “Galactic Minotaurt” in the Contemporary Gose category
San Antonio’s own Freetail Brewing Co took home their second GABF medal, walking the stage to snag their gold in the Baltic Porter category for ‘Snap Yo’ Baltics’. This tasty beverage was brewed at the brewery’s original location by brewpub head brewer Daniel Leary.
