Another Craft Brewers Conference is in the books and with it another World Beer Cup. Held every two years, the World Beer Cup sets its self apart from other competitions like the Great American Beer Festival and the U.S. Open Beer Championships, as the competition is on an international scale and not limited to entrants from only the United States.
This year’s competition saw judges from 33 countries, a whopping 72 percent of whom were from outside the United States. This elite group of judges evaluated 8,234 beers, an increase of 25 percent over the number of entries at the 2016 World Beer Cup, held in Philadelphia. Of the 2,515 participating breweries, 807 were from outside the United States.
Riding the coattails of their historic 21 medal wins at last year’s Great American Beer Festival, Texas breweries showed up ready compete This year the Lone Star State brought in a record 11 total awards this year 6 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals.

Armadillo Ale Works, Denton. Gold for ‘Honey Please’, in the Honey Beer category.
Pinthouse Pizza-Burnet, Austin. Silver for ‘This Year’s Crop Wet Hop’, in the Fresh or Wet Hop Ale category.
Revolver Brewing, Granbury. Gold for ‘Anodyne’ in the Other Strong Beer category.
Twin Peaks Brewing, Irving. Silver for ‘Double Barrel Knotty’ in the Wood and Barrel-Aged beer category.
Altstadt, Fredericksburg. Bronze for ‘Altstadt Alt’ in the German-Style Altbier category.
Big Bend Brewing, Alpine. Gold for ‘National Park Hefeweizen’, in the Southern German-Style Hefeweizen category.
Saint Arnold Brewing, Houston. Gold for ‘Saint Arnold Weedwacker, in the German-Style Wheat Ale category.
Save The World Brewing, Marble Falls. Bronze for ‘Lux Mundi’ in the Other Belgian-Style Ale category.
Wild Acre Brewing, Fort Worth. Gold for ‘Thunder Hug’, in the Wood and Barrel-Aged Strong Stout category.
Pinthouse Pizza-Burnet, Austin. Gold for ‘Green Battles’, in the American Strong Pale Ale category.
Pinthouse Pizza-S. Lamar, Austin. Bronze for ‘Bailing Room, in the American-Style India Pale Ale category.
